AR10 .308 Lower Receiver

The AR-10 80% .308 billet lower receiver in its raw, uncoated form is a popular choice among firearm enthusiasts looking for a versatile, high-quality foundation for a .308 rifle build. As a staple in the AR-10 rifle-building community, this lower receiver offers a balance of durability, precision, and customizability. With its DPMS (Defense Procurement Manufacturing Services) platform compatibility, this receiver can be paired with a range of components, giving builders an edge in terms of flexibility and functionality.

The AR-10 80% .308 billet lower receiver is a partially finished frame that serves as the base for your AR-10 rifle build. Made from durable billet aluminum, it’s designed for superior strength and precision. As an 80% lower, it comes without the necessary machining to make it a functioning firearm component, which means it is not classified as a firearm by federal regulations. This allows buyers to purchase and complete it without going through an FFL (Federal Firearms License) transfer.

An 80% lower receiver is an incomplete lower that lacks certain critical machining to make it operable. Because it’s unfinished, it’s classified as an “80% lower” rather than a full receiver and is not considered a firearm under federal law. This unique status makes 80% lowers especially popular among DIY builders and gun enthusiasts who enjoy the process of assembling their own firearms.

The AR-10 80% .308 billet lower is crafted from billet aluminum, which offers several advantages over forged or cast options. Billet aluminum is milled from a single block, allowing for thicker walls and a more robust build. This makes the receiver highly resistant to bending and cracking, ensuring long-term durability under repeated firing.

The CNC machining process used in billet construction provides superior dimensional accuracy. This precision is critical for maintaining tight tolerances, which can result in improved fit and reliability when paired with upper receivers and other AR-10 components.

Billet receivers often feature unique aesthetic and ergonomic enhancements that set them apart from standard forged receivers. Builders who prioritize both function and form will appreciate the additional customization options that come with a billet lower.

The DPMS platform is one of the most common and widely adopted standards for .308 AR builds, meaning it’s easier to find compatible parts and accessories. Using a lower receiver frame based on the DPMS platform provides builders with access to a vast selection of compatible uppers, barrels, and accessories.

Anodizing provides a hard, protective layer that’s highly resistant to corrosion and wear. This electrochemical process can also add color, allowing for black, grey, bronze, or custom finishes. Cerakote is a ceramic-based coating that provides both aesthetic variety and added protection. Available in numerous colors, Cerakote offers a durable finish that withstands scratches, corrosion, and wear over time. Powder coating is another durable finish option that allows for a wide range of colors and textures. It provides a thick, protective layer that guards against harsh conditions and wear, although it may add a slight amount of thickness to the part. For a unique look, you can polish the raw aluminum to a bright, reflective finish. This is purely aesthetic, but some gun owners appreciate the sleek, metallic look that polished aluminum provides.
